Top 5 Mistakes New ADIs Make When Going Independent
Going independent is the right move. But the first year is where new ADIs lose pupils and money to avoidable errors. Here are the five I see most, and how to dodge each.
1. Underpricing out of fear
New independents charge £20 a lesson because they're scared. Work backwards from your weekly target instead. Most areas support £30-£38. My full method is in how to price your lessons for profit.
2. A half-finished Google Business Profile
An empty GBP ranks nowhere. Claim it, set the category to "Driving School", add services, prices and a dozen photos. This single step fills more diaries than any ad. I set it up for £89.
3. Wrapping the car in someone else's brand
If you came from a franchise, de-brand immediately. You pay for the car, so it should advertise YOUR school for the next three years. A £199 branding pack gives you the identity.
4. No referral system
Every pass knows three or four learners. Without a referral nudge you leave that on the table. A simple £10-off-for-both turns one pass into two pupils. Free, compounding marketing.
5. Waiting for the phone
The first month is quiet and that's normal. Build the asset before you panic: site, GBP, a small ad. By month three your Google listing does the work a franchise charged £250 a week for. The Launch Package builds it all for you.
